Information about the school
The Cedar School is a maintained Special School in Nursling, Southampton
All our children have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) and as such have a joint Health, Care and Education plan or an Educational Statement or are moving through this statutory process.
We have children with a combination of SEND which could range from Physical Difficulties (PD), Complex Health Difficulties, Hearing Impairment (HI), Visual Impairment (VI), Autism (ASD), Moderate learning Difficulties (MLD), Profound and Multiple learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe learning difficulties (SLD) and associated communication and behavioural difficulties.
The school currently has 70 places.
Alongside the education team, the school works in close, open partnership with health colleagues. The school benefits from onsite Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, visiting Speech and Language Therapists and a full time school Nursing service. As such health outcomes can be married with educational outcomes, to ensure ‘holistic’ success for our children.
The school also hosts a range of health clinics and surgeries in the school to support families and ensure learning is not compromised. These include Feeding, Orthotic, Wheelchair, Paediatric and Orthopaedic clinics.
The school offers a specialised learning environment with a range of extension rooms and areas to further support the SEN requirements of our young people.
The school has a hydrotherapy pool, sensory room, soft play room, adapted Independence kitchen, independent ICT room as well as Touch screen technology in all class areas, an outside learning and sensory garden as well as adapted play equipment and a range of outside learning spaces to enrich our curriculum offer.
The school also has 4 minibuses to support our learning approach as we regularly go on visits into the community
