The school places children at the school after full consultation from the Special Educational Needs Department of Local Authorities.
As a Southampton Special School most children come from the City but there are also currently a number of other children form other Local Authorities.
The school offers a successful placement to a child once all relevant paperwork (EHC plans/Statements and related documents) have been reviewed by the range of professionals and departments within the school. The school will only offer a placement to a child should we believe we can meet all needs as reflected in the statutory documents and should we have a relevant peer group in the school as well as making sure that the child will not have a detrimental effect on the educational provision for other young people currently at the school
Once a placement has been offered we will await confirmation from the corresponding Local Authority to proceed with the admission. Once formally agreed the school will then contact the family and appropriate transitional work will be put into place and visits, meetings and dates will be agreed collectively.
As you may imagine each child will require an individualised, bespoke transitional arrangement and this will be fully discussed with the family. Once agreed a child’s transport arrangement to the school will be set up through coordination from the corresponding LA transport division and the school Administration Manager, Jacquie Kier
