Return to School Information

 13th July 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

Important Message About Arrangements For September 2020

I am writing to explain the arrangements for the beginning of term in September. I am sharing this information as a letter and also as a YouTube recording. Both the letter and the YouTube recording are being sent to families by email and put on the school website.

Staff and governors have thought very carefully about the best way for your children to return to school in September. We are aware that some of your children have not been in the school building since February. Some of you have had to shield and your children may not have been able to access their health care support in the usual way. You will all have faced challenges.

I want you to know that everyone at Cedar cannot wait to welcome you and your children back! We are excited about seeing you all again and to getting everybody back into a school routine.

From Friday 18th September every child will be back full time at Cedar, however we are going to do something a bit different for the first two weeks of term so that we can ensure a smooth and happy return for your child and for every child in the school.
Today you will receive an email to let you know which class your child will be in from September and which staff will be working in his/her class.

You will also be told if your child is in ‘Group A’ or ‘Group B’ within their class.
This is because, for the first two weeks of term in September, children in Group A will come to school on some days and work at home on others. Children in Group B will come to school on different days to Group A and work at home on different days.
This means that children will be in school in small groups so teaching staff, health staff and all of us have quality time to assess your child’s needs. Then, when we are fully up and running again from Friday 18th September, we will be prepared, in every way, to make sure that all of your child’s needs are supported and to help him/her to make good progress.

The timetable for the first two weeks of term is shown below this information.

Teachers will send work home for your child to complete on the days when he or she is not in school during the first fortnight.

We hope that you will understand the reasons for these arrangements. We believe it is the best way to help all children to settle back at school. Many other schools are going to have similar arrangements at the start of term.

If your child is going into Red Class the arrangements will be slightly different. The team will let you know the times when your child will be in school.

Each teacher and teaching team have put together a short film welcoming your child to their new class. These films can be found on the school website. We hope that the films will help to reassure you and your child ahead of September.

The school is letting the Transport team know these arrangements. Drivers will know which days your child is in school. We have done this to save you any worry about contacting the Transport team.

Please note – the school day will run from 9am until 3pm each day throughout the Autumn Term. This will give staff time to get everything ready to support your children especially as there are extra requirements due to COVID 19.

Jonathan, Cesia and team have put really strong systems in place to ensure that the school complies with all COVID 19 safety advice and requirements. These systems will remain in place in September and we will also be reviewing them to match the latest government advice.

A final request – please can I ask you to check your emails during the Summer Holidays because, if we have to make a change to these arrangements, we would contact parents by email.

Thank you! We do not plan to make any changes and would only do this if government advice changes.

We do appreciate that returning to school will be a huge step for some children and their families. Please know that we are here for you; please do ask if we can
support you in any way.

We all look forward to welcoming you back to Cedar in September! I am really looking forward to taking up the post of headteacher on 1st September and to meeting you all!

In the meantime, everyone at Cedar sends you very best wishes for the Summer Holiday! Enjoy!

Take care,
Neil Revell
